About Our ProgramsUpdated Monday January 30, 2017 by Coach Tim Northrop.
Glens Falls Youth Lacrosse offers lacrosse instruction for boys in grades 1-8 with an emphasis on individual skill development and team play.
1st-2nd grade (Scouts): In 2015 we offered a 1st and 2nd grade team that wore full equipment and played games with other regional teams. It was a great success and we plan to offer the opportunity again in 2016. Although the 2016 schedule may be impacted by coach availability, last year, practices were held Wednesday evenings at 6 PM and Saturday mornings at 9 AM at Crandall Park or beside the YMCA.
3rd-4th (Warriors) This level requires full equipment as it continues team play through participation in league play with area schools. At this level, our program focuses on skills and strategies associated with boys lacrosse. Practices and games at the 3rd-4th grade level have traditionally been on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings in Crandall Park or next to the YMCA.
5th-6th (Chiefs) Players at this level will move to a full-sized field and a regualtion 10 v 10 for games. Practices and games have traditionally been held on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings at Murray Street Park in Glens Falls.
7th-8th (Indians) This level of play, while not officially a "modified" program sponsored by the Glens Falls City School District, is run like one. Player commiment will be increased as the schedule is expanded for both practices and games. Team activities (practices or games) will be five days a week, with practices being held at Putt Lemay field (the turf) or Larose Street field. Weekday practices will be after high school practices, generally from 6-7:30 and Saturday practice and game times will be announced at the beginning of the season.
Girls lacrosse: added in 2016 girls lacrosse will have teams for girls in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grades for the spring 2017 season.
Junior Varsity - This full high school program is generally made up of players from grades 9 and 10. This team will practice every weekday and some Saturdays and will play a full 16 game Foothills Council schedule.
Varsity - For our most accomplished players, this full varsity program will play a complete 16 game Foothills Council schedule and compete in NY State Section 2 Sectional play. Practices will be each weekday and some Saturdays beginning in March.
Note: Both teams at the high school level will have games scheuled over the school scheduled spring break. Players who commit to playing lacrosse at the high school level are expected to be available for games and practices over spring break.
